Position Summary: The Actuary is responsible for developing pricing indications using Company's methodologies so as to attain an underwriting profit for all business. .

Essential Functions:
  • Participates in periodic evaluation of policies' profitability and assignment to reinsurance fund.
  • Assists with filing requirements.
  • Prepares and coordinates quarterly actuarial reports.
  • Communicates with broker/consulting actuary/client actuary when needed.
  • Develops pricing indications using Hudson/Odyssey Re methodologies so as to attain an underwriting profit on all business. Prices alternative structures as needed.
  • Assists in clearly communicating pricing indications to underwriters/senior company management.
  • Participates in underwriting audits at clients' offices.
  • Assists with biannual profitability reviews for assigned programs and lines of business.
  • Maintains familiarity with crop insurance industry developments impacting pricing analysis.
  • Updates pricing models, including trends, expected crop yields, etc.
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities:
  • Strong mathematical, analytical and computer skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and Access.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels within the company, as well as external individuals including brokers, consulting actuaries, and clients.
  • Maintains confidentiality of company-sensitive data.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of activities and situations, which will impact the achievement of corporate, and department goals and objectives.
  • Performs other related duties as required to achieve the goals and objectives of the company and department.
  • Knowledge of state rate and form filing procedures.
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3 to 5 exams passed with the intention of attaining CAS designation(s).
  • At least three years of experience in a property and casualty actuarial role. Crop insurance experience is not necessary, but would be extremely helpful.
