Position Summary:
This position is part of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Actuarial team within the ERM Department. This position will play a key role in leading our Embedded Value and Economic Capital frameworks through model stewardship, development and maintenance and enterprise engagement and education. Embedded Value is one of four strategic metrics identified in Securian’s Win With Purpose strategic plan and Economic Capital is a KPI underpinning our financial strength outcome. Both are quickly emerging enterprise tools which we’re driving to fully integrate as key metrics in Securian’s decision-making and results management.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
1. Lead Embedded Value model development
- Collaborate with market segments and model owners to identify modelling deficiencies and develop and implement solutions
- Lead model development to expand coverage of products and/or functionality within products towards comprehensive insurance company coverage
- Lead education and engagement efforts with solutions groups and shared services partners to increase understanding of Embedded Value and drive adoption
- Lead maintenance and development of tools to support results aggregation and validation, improving automation, efficiency and timeliness
- Partner with internal SMEs and external consultants to drive enhancements to embedded value models and ensure alignment with best practices
- Lead development of Prophet and external tools to help with communication and explanation of results to senior leadership in order to drive buy-in and expand use
- Work with actuarial governance groups to ensure compliance with Securian’s model control policy
2. Oversee quarterly Embedded Value and Economic Capital process
- Manage end-to-end quarterly process including driving a schedule to meet stakeholder objectives
- Collaborate with market segment model owners to ensure delivery and updates of Prophet models
- Coordinate with modeling COE to ensure models are run and results are validated in a timely manner
- Oversee completion of compilation of results and report production and provide first line review
- Present quarterly results to key stakeholders
3. Provide additional Prophet modeling in support of ERM and Enterprise initiatives, as identified
- Support Prophet 360 Library conversions through testing and validation of EC model results.
- Develop modeling capabilities to support economic capital projections and other nested stochastic needs
- Train and work direct other ERM associates in using Prophet and other tools supporting Embedded Value and Economic Capital
4. Expand ALM modeling capabilities
- Partner with ALM leadership to implement more robust asset-liability modeling capabilities
- Lead modeling of investment strategy scenarios to test strategies across products and environments
Qualifications:
1. 5+ years of actuarial modeling experience (preferably Prophet or similar)
2. Fellow of the Society of Actuaries
3. Experience with Life and Annuity products
4. Understanding of economic and embedded value frameworks
5. Service mindset to work effectively with a variety of internal partners to provide modeling solutions that meet their needs.
6. Communicate appropriately to keep stakeholders informed, engaged, and translate technical and detail concepts with audiences outside the immediate area of expertise
7. Demonstrate responsibility by ensuring appropriate standards, processes, and controls are followed
