Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage a multidiscipline team to implement innovative solutions to support provider organizations with risk management, reporting, utilization management and other needs
  • Serve in an advisory role to internal and external clients on value-based care, growth & strategy, network management, and service line excellence
  • Perform in a lead role to clients in day-to-day delivery of large-scale projects / products, which are defined as high cost, high complexity and / or high risk
  • Lead business development process for new clients and/or new solutions into existing clients
  • Develop proposals and statements of work for client engagements. Lead the RFI, RFP and sales process
  • Create a team-oriented work climate that enables professional development, encourages creative solutions and strategies, and drives best-in-class professional standards
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to junior consultants and analysts with the goal of developing and retaining talent within the organization
  • Actively participate in contributing thought leadership for Optum to the market, including assistance in building consulting marketing and sales collateral
  • Identify and develop consulting offerings, products and services solutions that align with key market needs and or client initiatives

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in Healthcare industry serving in the capacity of an actuary
  • 5+ years of Project leadership/management experience
  • 5+ years of experience managing and providing work direction to a team
  • Fellow or Associate of the Society of Actuaries designation
  • Experience with payer, provider, consumer and pharmacy data assets
  • Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Some knowledge of SAS or SQL
  • Proven problem-solving skills (identification of issue, causes, solution, implementation plan)
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written, including presenting technical concepts to a non-technical audience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in using various Optum proprietary and public data sources
  • Experience working with providers (health systems, physicians, ancillary)
  • Experience with financial modeling of value-based care contracts
  • Experience in business development for consulting/advisory services
  • Entrepreneurial spirit

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California/Colorado/Connecticut/Hawaii/Nevada/New Jersey/New York/Rhode Island/Washington residents is $147,300 to $282,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
