American National is seeking an Actuarial Risk Modeler. In this role you will focus on complex data retrieval and manipulation, advanced risk modeling (such as catastrophe modeling), and make decisions based on these analyses. To be successful in this role you should have at least six years of actuarial or statistical analysis experience, and at least 3 years of modeling experience.
What Will You Do?
• Works with Corporate Technology Services, actuarial, underwriting, marketing, and other areas to understand data structures, determine data definitions, and evaluate the accuracy of data elements and metrics, providing guidance to others as needed. It is imperative that the incumbent disclose any defect identified in the data to their supervisor or manager, as well as to the user of the data
• Writes sophisticated data extraction software code, providing guidance to others as needed, using the tools, standards, and platforms in use at the time
• Uses guidance as provided by Actuarial Standard of Practice 41 to create the appropriate documentation of projects
• Develops databases, spreadsheets, and reports for use throughout the enterprise, providing guidance to others as needed, using the tools, standards, and platforms in use at the time
• Uses the appropriate tools (catastrophe modeling software or other techniques as appropriate) to build risk models for use in actuarial, marketing, underwriting, or other departments, using the tools, standards, and platforms in use at the time
• Uses actuarial and business judgment to make and implement decisions based on risk models
Required Skills
• At least six years of actuarial or statistical analysis experience, demonstrating sufficient progress in understanding and applying basic principles. A master's degree or better in statistics or a related field may be substituted for up to two years of actuarial or statistical analysis experience
• Attainment of Associate of Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS), Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and/or Certified Specialist in Predictive Analytics (CSPA) designation. A master's degree or better in statistics or a related field may be substituted for exam success
• At least three years of modeling experience required
