Position: Actuarial Internship (Group Benefits Division)

Location: 4725 Piedmont Row Drive, Suite 600, Charlotte, NC

2025 Summer Internship dates are flexible, with an anticipated start date in mid-May 2025, finishing before the end of August 2025, with a target of 8 to 12 weeks of employment.

Summary of Internship

Over the past several years, the Group Benefits Division (GB) has insourced key health actuarial initiatives. As the business continues to grow, so does the need for additional support in this area. We are looking for someone who works well in a highly collaborative and analytical environment. Candidates should have a strong technical foundation and solid written and oral communication skills. This is a role for someone who is excited to find the trends behind data then tell a story to help direct solutions.

Our internship program provides exposure to various areas of risk management and actuarial support as they apply to different business segments across the Group Benefits division.

Our goal is to make an internship at Amwins a structured work experience that relates directly to your career interests and development. It offers opportunities to plan, reflect and shape your career goals.

Potential projects planned for Summer 2025 include:
• Year over year stop loss market trends analysis
• Multi-year analysis of fully insured medical renewals, including detailed investigation of key assumptions vs experience
• Fully Insured to Self-Funding opportunity analyses
• Reserving model updates
• Research on various health care market trends, and communication to key stakeholders

What you will gain from this internship:

• Analyze data trends to seek and optimize new and renewal business opportunities
• Support health insurance product development, modeling and analysis
• Analyze medical and pharmacy claims, including benchmarking to applicable industry experience
• Participate in internal/external client meetings
• Develop technical skills - Excel, SQL, Python, and PowerPoint
• Document and complete assigned tasks within the project timeline
• Participate in research and training programs
• Work with dedicated, enthusiastic project teams that will help you grow your technical and professional skills, and develop a network of contacts
• Test out your career choices without making a permanent commitment
• Apply the knowledge you learned in the classroom

Qualifications

Required:
• Enrolled at an accredited college or university
• Pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Risk Management, or other related field
• Recommended GPA of 3.0 or above

Preferred:
• Rising Junior or Senior for Fall 2025
• 1+ Actuarial Exams passed
• Familiarity with coding (SAS, Python, R, etc.)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Desired personal qualities include: resourceful, organized, hard-working, goal-oriented, inquisitive
