The Position:

Arch Reinsurance Actuarial Intern: The Intern would support the Actuarial team by assisting in the analysis of reinsurance business along with special projects. Special projects would include things like populating pricing models, gathering and entering data for rate monitoring, documenting pricing work that has been done, and gathering and cleaning data for development work.

Internship Responsibilities:

• Support the Actuarial team by assisting in analysis by gathering/scrubbing data, providing initial takeaways, and learning about bigger picture of the project
• Manage time and projects well: balance working independently with asking questions; keep project managers aware of status
• Document work clearly so that others can follow and understand the data and analysis
• Attend team meetings and continuing education sessions to understand Arch's business units and gain industry knowledge
• Data extraction
• Preparation of spreadsheets used in reserve studies
• Analysis of reserve and forecast model output
• Report preparation
• Detailed analysis of our competitive position in the marketplace
• Populate pricing models with client or industry data and assist with running the pricing models
• Document pricing work that has been done
• Gathering and entering data for rate monitoring
• Gathering, entering, and scrubbing data for development work
• Other projects as needed

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Knowledge of Statistics
• Comprehensive proficiency with Excel
• Comprehensive proficiency with Word
• Demonstrated interest or commitment to the actuarial/insurance field
• Motivation and ability to self-direct and self-teach
• Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking and logical, quantitative reasoning to solve problems
• Strong oral and written communication skills

Education:

• Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors enrolled in an accredited college or university
• Suggested majors: math, statistics, computer science, actuarial science, engineering, physics

Location & Work Arrangement:

• This position is classified as a hybrid position. You will work 2 days onsite and 3 days from home.
• This position is in Morristown, NJ.

Pay

For individuals assigned to or hired to work in Morristown, NJ, the hourly rate is $22 to $26 as of the time of posting. The breadth in the range exists to accommodate students in specialized programs such as actuarial candidates and graduate students. Any actual rate offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, along with the education & qualifications of the candidate. The above range may be modified in the future. Intern position is eligible for select Arch benefits.
