Position Purpose

Prepare, perform, analyze and review actuarial analysis. Responsible for the collection of data, selection of parameters, and calculations involved with conducting actuarial analysis. Evaluate profitability of products and recommend corrective action and/or identify growth opportunities.  Evaluate the adequacy of held reserves of products and identify methodologies to improve the loss reserving process.   Act as a steward of data quality by discovering and discussing data anomalies and issues with underwriting, claims, branch support, accounting, and IT.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare, perform, analyze and review actuarial analysis.

  • Evaluate profitability of products and recommend corrective action and/or identify growth opportunities

  • Evaluate the adequacy of held reserves of products and identify methodologies to improve the loss reserving process.

  • Establish and perform appropriate analysis processes and ensure documentation is accurate.

  • Research data to ensure accuracy and completeness within the reserving/pricing data structure.

  • Provide Product and Actuarial analysis to appropriate internal and external contacts.

  • Direct reserve related financial reporting and pricing analysis.

  • Act as a steward of data quality by discovering and discussing data anomalies and issues with underwriting, claims, branch support, accounting, and IT.

  • Lead special projects and other duties as needed.

Education & Experience

Requires an advanced degree in actuarial science, mathematics, business administration, or a related field. Also 11 or more years of experience in a similar field or position or achievement of Associate of CAS.

Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies

  • Ability to use analytical methods in complex insurance processes to find workable solutions.

  • Ability to generate innovative solutions within the actuarial and Risk Services department.

  • Ability to understand and communicate findings and recommendations of Actuarial and Product analyses to internal and external contacts in a way that can be understood.

  • Ability to manage and develop subordinates to ensure increased performance.

  • Ability to use software to summarize and analyze large amounts of data.

  • Ability to apply a strategic perspective to improve Risk Services functions.

  • Ability to possess a results and learning orientation.
