Consider this unique actuarial opportunity created as a new position to assist in the support of Middle Market and Construction SBUs. This position requires strong data and technical skills to complete deep analyses focused across lines of business to help influence strategies for the total business unit. The ability to collaborate with line of business pricing actuaries is essential and opportunities to collaborate with business partners will be offered. Determining the impacts of strategies across multiple lines and ways to monitor those strategies will also be essential to this role.

In this position, you will enjoy a hybrid work schedule determined by the needs of the business that typically consists of one day per week in one of our CNA Actuarial Hub offices (Chicago, IL; New York City, NY; Warren, NJ; Radnor, PA; or San Francisco, CA) with the option to work the remainder of your week remotely.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
  • Collaborates with business partners and functional subject matter experts, provides actuarial input as needed.
  • Partners with peers, business partners, and leaders to support a specific segment's strategy through the use of actionable insights and analytics.
  • Provides support for business strategy for an assigned area. May create and modify existing tools/analytics as needed.
  • Proactively monitors profitability/reserving and claim trends and incorporates knowledge of multiple lines of business into work products.
  • Provides support to less experienced team members and help to manage projects as needed.
  • Stays up to date in actuarial expertise and industry trends and development.
  • Produces standard and special reports as needed.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

Director or above

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Solid knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance, actuarial and statistical concepts.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise and broad product knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve moderately complex situations and issues. Demonstrates attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills. Some experience working collaboratively with business partners a plus.
  • Ability to make critical business decisions effectively within scope of authority.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team, can manage multiple moderately complex projects.
  • Ability to comprehend business data and metrics and to further articulate analyses of actuarial data within internal reports.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent.
  • Typically a minimum of four years of related work experience.
  • Typically at least three to five successfully completed CAS exams. May include those with their Associateship.
  • Experience or ability and desire to work with large quantities of data.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $49,000 to $98,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
