ABOUT THE ROLE

The Actuarial Consultant will support our growing national actuarial practice, initially reporting to the National Director of Underwriting and Actuarial Services. This individual will support a portfolio of Employee Benefits (EB) clients varying in the role of lead actuary (for small to mid-market clients) and supporting actuary (for the large market clients).

The Actuarial Consultant will also provide mentorship to junior team members and may offer support to regional consulting teams. This role requires a hands-on approach to both routine and ad hoc analyses, leveraging data from our warehouse and other systems to meet client needs and support strategic national initiatives.

In this collaborative role, the Actuarial Consultant will work closely with specialty practices such as Clinical and Pharmacy teams, as well as development teams, to drive success across the organization. They will act as a valuable resource for regional financial consulting teams, helping ensure exceptional service and expert guidance.

  • Act as client lead for small and mid-market clients; provide support to large clients
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure high-quality, timely deliverables for clients
  • Support the National Director and Senior Actuary to offer actuarial direction and strategic guidance, supporting the financial reporting needs enterprise-wide, including the development of financial templates, calculators, and models
  • Execute projects, including: experience reports, budget projections, and reserve setting
  • Work on ad hoc projects requiring data analysis within Excel and HUB's data warehouse
  • Update, build, and review tools and templates
  • Collaborate with Clinical, Pharmacy, and Health & Performance teams on various cost containment analyses and strategies
  • Analyze benefits plans, funding mechanisms and/or vendor partners to help achieve clients' goals
  • Act as a strategic advisor/SME to clients and/or internal stakeholders as it relates to actuarial and financial consulting needs
  • May represent HUB to prospective and current clients
  • Work on special projects and continue to build technical skills
  • Support junior colleague development through peer review and mentorship


Role Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Active Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) certification
  • Able to sign actuarial certifications with necessary Associate of the Society of Actuaries and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries credentials
  • 5+ years of employee benefits consulting experience. Experience with clients ranging from mid-market, upper mid-market, and jumbo preferred
  • Knowledge of various markets across the US preferred
  • Exposure to various industries, including education, healthcare and public-sector preferred
  • Proficiency with Excel, VBA, Power Query, Power BI, SQL, and/or other technical experience
  • Experience with self-funded clients and comfortable projecting budgets, setting reserves, and negotiating renewals
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to manipulate and analyze data
  • Passion for leading and developing others
  • Ability to communicate clearly with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Experience leading client teams/projects and delivering client presentations
  • Comfortable in data warehouse, running standard and ad hoc reports
  • Obtain Life & Health Insurance license within first 3 months of employment with HUB
