In this role, you will act as an advisor to Actuarial peers by providing actuarial analyses in support of influencing pricing and underwriting decisions and strategies for CNA's Affinity business unit, focusing on Architect and Engineer (A&E) firms. You will work closely with business partners and Actuarial leaders in the industry to assist in driving profitable growth strategies.
In this position, you will also enjoy a hybrid work schedule that consists of one day per week in one of our CNA Actuarial Hub offices (Chicago, IL; New York City, NY; Warren, NJ; Radnor, PA; and San Francisco, CA) with the option to work the remainder of your week remotely. Exam taking candidates can participate in our Actuarial Education Program which provides competitive study support and exam raises as you grow your skills.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Collaborates with business partners and functional subject matter experts, provides actuarial guidance as needed.
- Builds strong relationships with peers, business partners and leaders in order to influence a specific segment's strategy through the use of actionable insights and analytics.
- Performs complex actuarial calculations and actuarial studies and develops rates for existing and/or new business.
- Provides analyses and insights to assist in determining pricing strategy for Errors & Omissions Liability and various other professional liability coverages. May create and modify existing tools/analytics as needed.
- Proactively monitors profitability trends and shares results with recommendations to leaders, underwriting and other business partners.
- Provides support to less experienced team members and help to manage projects and presentations as needed.
- Produces highly technical and accurate actuarial analyses and reports. Communicates findings to other analytical staff.
- Stays up to date in actuarial expertise and industry trends and development.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Solid knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance, actuarial and statistical concepts.
- Demonstrated technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners sometimes influencing decisions.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve moderately complex situations and issues. Demonstrates attention to detail.
- Ability to make critical business decisions effectively within scope of authority.
- Ability to work independently and as a team, can manage multiple moderately complex projects.
- Ability to comprehend business data and metrics and to further articulate analyses of actuarial data within internal reports.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent.
- Typically a minimum of four years of related work experience.
- Typically at least three to five successfully completed CAS exams. May include those with their Associateship.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the standard base pay range for this role is $43,600 to $159,500 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
