Overview of the Position
This is an individual contributor role within the Group Reinsurance Plus (GRP) Actuarial team. GRP’s business model consists of these key initiatives: private label disability, private label group life, private label worksite products, voluntary supplemental health products, traditional group life reinsurance, and LTD and group life premium waiver claim reserve buyouts. This role will support key reporting, pricing, and analytical needs to support our Actuarial and Premium Administration functions. This team member will have equal opportunities to be involved with both pricing and valuation/reserving work.
Responsibilities:
Valuation:
- Monthly reporting support, including running our reserve database and assisting with analysis as needed
- Mailbox support for reserve requests
- Gain a solid understanding of the LTD reserve database, and support Developer in re-design
- Assist with review and refresh of reserving processes and assumptions
- Support and enhance our quarterly incurral reporting process
- Build and analyze claim metrics to allow the business to better understand drivers of financial results
- Support the build of a GRP-specific RMR (Risk Management Review) deck
- Provide ad-hoc reporting and analysis to support the business
- Deep dives into financial results
Pricing:
- Mailbox support for pricing inquiries
- Support testing of pricing systems
- Support rate filings for voluntary supplemental health products
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree required
2+ years experience as an Actuarial Consultant or similar role
High proficiency in Excel and Access
Experience with VBA
Experience with R and SQL preferred
Strong analytical skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills
Continuous improvement mindset with attention to detail
Independently motivated; constantly looks for areas to add value
Knowledge of reserving techniques a plus
Reinsurance experience a plus
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$70,000 - $118,000The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
