WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION?

Opportunities exist for Actuarial candidates in a variety of our business areas. As a participant in our vigorous entry-level training program your experience is designed to assist you in developing the performance and leadership skills to succeed as an Actuary. Some of the key responsibilities of the Actuarial Analyst Trainee position include: pricing, establish rates, constructing analytical models, performing financial projections, evaluation of loss costs, manipulation of loss triangles, creating time curves, developing frequency projections, presenting results to customers and evaluating risk measures and severity trends.  Training includes self-paced modules and practice problems with daily discussion meetings.  Participants will learn actuarial techniques and procedures while becoming familiar with company operations, systems and methodologies.  Training will improve your basic knowledge in Excel and programing allowing you to become confident in basic ratemaking, basic reserving and decision making.  Additionally, participants will develop their network with senior leaders, fellow co-workers, and mentors as they prepare to enter actuarial rotations within the Actuarial Student Program.

Our fulltime training program is scheduled to begin in March 2023 and requires participants to be in our Hartford, CT home office at least a hybrid schedule.  Relocation assistance is provided for those that qualify.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Desire to learn the actuarial profession inside and out
  • Ability to pick up concepts and learn quickly
  • Active participation and enthusiasm about learning and applying knowledge
  • Strong mathematical aptitude, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel
  • Potential to pass actuarial exams
  • Bachelors Degree

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$65,920 - $98,880
