Description of the Position:

This position provides key support for the Spectrum Actuarial team’s goals and initiatives and offers opportunities for exposure to a wide range of actuarial work and interactions with various business partners, including Product/Line of Business, Product Management, Underwriting, Reserving, Small Commercial Territory Actuarial, Data Science, and others, to drive continued innovation and the successful performance of our flagship BOP product. The team’s responsibilities include class plan development and maintenance, rate execution, new coverage development, product monitoring, and loss ratio planning, along with the supporting analyses underlying these activities.

** Please note, candidates pursuing exams as well as those not pursuing exams will be considered for this role.  This role can be part of our Actuarial Student Program for an individual meeting requirements for entry into the program. **

Opportunities:

·Gain an in-depth understanding of the Spectrum BOP product

·Gain deep experience with traditional ratemaking techniques, and exposure to advanced ratemaking techniques

·Develop strong analytical and communication skills, with a focus on providing actionable insight

·Build innovation and project management skills as we continue to transform our profitability monitoring and rate execution processes

·Reinforce adaptability, flexibility, ability to manage and prioritize dynamic workflow

·Own, update, and maintain suite of analytical and rate execution tools, based in R Shiny and Excel

·Participate in trend and other analyses which support multiple aspects of the Spectrum team’s work

·Monitor book performance and contribute to profitability goals, potentially including:

·Perform rate adequacy analyses, including loss cost model updates/interpretation and communication to management and business partners

·Management reporting activities, such as Monthly Business Review materials, rate monitoring, and participation in cross-segment working groups (ROE, FRIAR, etc.)

·Collaborate with Product/Line of Business partners on new coverage/coverage enhancement initiatives

Experience & Skills

  • 1+ years of actuarial experience in P&C insurance pricing.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with Python/R and SQL

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with thorough attention to detail. Ability to own projects and anticipate obstacles and customer needs.

  • Proactive individual, who challenges existing processes, can influence others and can drive a process to a conclusion while meeting critical deadlines.

  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical results to the business and influence decisions.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$67,000 - $103,000
