This position will be based in Philadelphia and support the Corporate Actuarial Group, a team under the overall direction of the Chubb Group Chief Actuary. Responsibilities will principally focus on reserving, rate monitoring, and financial/corporate reporting at the Group level.
Most tasks will be performed on a recurring basis, either quarterly or annually, and often require tight completion timelines. Other tasks will require research and development and may have project timelines that span months. There will also be ad hoc requests by management that are of an immediate nature. At any one time multiple projects may be ongoing, so the ability to shift focus quickly from one project to another is necessary.
Responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the production of quarterly assessments of loss reserve trends and metrics across product lines and operating units;
- Assisting, as needed, in the preparation of various financial filings, including 10-K, 10-Q, rating agency presentations, periodic industry studies, external actuarial reviews, etc.;
- Helping to develop an Actuarial MIS infrastructure using data/information extracted from a variety of sources that enhances our ability to produce reserve and other metrics;
- Responding to periodic requests by producing ad hoc analyses and reports; and
- Contributing to the improvement, creation, and/or implementation of processes to expand capabilities, improve efficiency, and enhance effectiveness.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- One to five years of actuarial experience;
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or similar technical discipline;
- Minimum of one actuarial exam with a commitment to obtain an actuarial designation;
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel required (including VBA and knowledge of data arrays and pivot tables);
- Experience in other MS Office applications, including Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with programming languages, such as Python, SQL, R or similar is strongly preferred;
- Detail oriented;
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications of analyses, results, and work products; and
- Should be well organized and able to maintain good documentation and record keeping.
