JOB SUMMARY
Performs analysis within the pricing functional area of the actuary department. Gathers information, verifies accuracy of data, organizes data, and assembles exhibits for analysis. Supports special projects by assembling and verifying data, performing assigned analysis, research, and testing of new or updated processes. Makes suggestions for changes and assists with modifications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs pricing work assignments including data preparation, analysis, documentation, and recommendation for action.
- Verifies and assesses the accuracy and reasonableness of utilized data.
- Supports a rate reviews, participates in review of line of business pricing and maintains and designs rating algorithms.
- Supports special projects such as competitive analysis, adoption of a new product, changes to rating algorithms, adds new coverage, performs initial analysis of legislative or regulatory changes.
- Retrieve data from various sources and organizes information into spreadsheets and databases.
- Makes initial recommendations to team and conducts testing for implementation of new or updated processes, including rate change recommendations, suggestions for model techniques, testing before rating is implemented for corporate level projects, and reviewing rate compare questions.
- Maintains and updates assigned workbooks, databases, processes and models.
- Makes suggestions for and assists with modifications to current techniques and processes.
- Studies for actuarial exams.
- Develops skills and knowledge of insurance operations.
- Follows industry trends in area of expertise. Researches circulars and industry publications.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The education and experience below are required for the job unless labelled as preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in actuarial science or math
- 1 actuarial exam and/or internship
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
COMPETENCIES
- Good knowledge of actuarial terminology, concepts and theory
- Good knowledge of statistics and probability and/or computer programming
- Good knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI and Word
- Knowledge of at least one computer language, such as R, SAS or SQL preferred
