Description
US Retail Market Reserving is seeking an actuarial analyst who, under general direction, will be responsible for implementing various actuarial analyses, programs, and procedures to support the formulation of reserving recommendations regarding Personal Lines Property and Specialty products. This person will communicate findings to actuaries and management and provide support to actuaries by performing reserve analysis within designated business segments to assist business decision making, financial planning, and strategy development. A successful candidate possesses strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills and is able to, under general direction, synthesize information from multiple sources to piece together a clear, cohesive reserve opinion to present to senior leadership. Travel maybe up to 10%.

Responsibilities:

  • Protect the integrity of the balance sheet by performing risk-focused reserve reviews and deep dives for areas of concern. Work collaboratively with Actuarial Modeling, Claims, and Product to identify and quantify risk to reserve opinions
  • Produce and present quarterly reserving analyses to Chief Actuaries; maintain and update reserving templates
  • Assist in building and implementing process improvement initiatives in collaboration with line of business teams and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Assist with planning work including Baseline Pure Premium selections

This role is open to remote work. If you are within 50-mile radius of the Boston, MA office you will be required to go into the office twice a week. Please note that this policy is subject to change.
Qualifications
  • Proven math and analytical skills, as normally acquired through the pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
  • Commitment to achieving Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society.
  • Passing grades on a minimum of 2 Casualty Actuarial Exams is required.
  • Minimum 2-4 years relevant experience required.
  • Prior experience and knowledge of basic actuarial techniques and standards and insurance operations.
  • Solid oral and written and presentation communication skills.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and apply independent judgment and critical thinking skills in execution of assignments.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects with some direction.
  • Intermediate MS Office Excel and SAS skills
  • Ability to build simple models; Programming skills are desirable.
