[ Position Summary:

We are actively seeking a talented and driven Actuary to join the Employee Benefits Solution Group. This position is part of the Group Life Actuarial Pricing Team and is responsible for supporting Group Life Pricing, which includes developing macro-level pricing tools and methodology, consulting on case-level Group pricing, and analyzing mortality results. As part of the Group Actuarial department, an associate will be part of a supportive team environment, learning a wide range of actuarial skills while working on variety of projects.

This position is part of the Actuarial exam-taking path. At Securian Financial the internal title for this position is Actuarial Analyst or Actuarial Sr. Analyst. The title and salary will be determined based on experience and exam progress.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Provide key support to Group Life Macro-Pricing functions.
  • Develop analysis, metrics, tools, and studies necessary to set macro pricing assumptions and methodology.
  • Support the enhancement of the pricing tools leveraged by the Case Underwriting team for the pricing of Group Life business, ensuring the pricing process is accurate, efficient, user-friendly, and appropriately flags risks requiring additional analysis and adjustment.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments and recommend corresponding updates to pricing.


Consult and advise on case-level pricing for Group Life products.
  • Provide actuarial consultation to the Case Underwriting team on plan design and pricing decisions for complex Group cases.


Provide key support to the in-force management of Group Life mortality results.
  • Support the financial analysis and projection of Group Life mortality results
  • Maintain and enhance in force management reports to track and analyze experience to inform management decisions and enhance pricing methodology.


Collaborate on and support projects relating to all functions of the actuarial department, as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Commitment and ability to progress towards the FSA designation.
  • Strong creative analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze data and model results.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with a range of stakeholders: management, actuaries, business technology, IT, distribution, and associates from all Group business areas.
  • Intellectual curiosity and the drive to learn Group's products, business, industry practices, relevant technical skills, and insurance actuarial pricing principles.
  • Self-motivated and flexible; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Adaptability in a rapidly changing environment.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong academic record in a four-year degree program in Actuarial Science, Math, Finance or related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
