Actuarial Intern Program
Each summer, Equitable invites a select group of diverse and talented college students to spend nine weeks learning from our actuarial team. In addition to leading an actuarial project, you will:
- Prepare for a Society of Actuaries exam with our prep classes.
- Improve your technical skills through Excel and VBA trainings.
- Research and collaborate on an actuarial topic that you will present to the senior leadership team.
- Work with a mentor to enhance your knowledge and learn how to work in an office setting.
- Learn from experienced actuaries at the Summer Speaker Series.
- Socialize with developing actuaries and more senior members at various group events throughout the summer.
For over 35 years, our program has provided summer interns with an in-depth look at a challenging and exciting actuarial career. Combining on-the-job training with structured learning opportunities, you will receive personal attention and guidance to make meaningful contributions to current company initiatives. You will gain first-hand experience with the techniques used to solve insurance business problems by working closely with actuaries across the Pricing, Valuation, Actuarial Modeling and Risk Management areas.
Internship Details
- Hourly rate: $25/hour - For this position, you will be offered an additional $2/hr for each SOA exam that is passed.
- Dates: June 3, 2024 - August 2, 2024
- Location: Charlotte, NC and New York, NY
- Work Environment: Flexible (1-2 days per week in the office may be required)
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently attending/enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
- Passing of one actuarial exam OR a score of at least 700 on the Math SAT OR the following educational requirement:
- Must have at least a 3.7 grade in two classes of the following topics (or similar topics):
- Probability
- Statistics
- Financial Math (Interest Theory, Econometrics, Quantitative Analysis, Financial Theory)
- Financial Economics
- Calculus (2-3, Differential Equations)
- Linear Algebra
- Computer Science
- Microeconomics/Macroeconomics
- Finance
- Actuarial Mathematics
- Note for the above grade requirement, you need to achieve >= 3.7 in each class, not an average between the two.
- With these two classes, at least one must be a 300-level course, and none can be a 100-level course (so no beginner/introductory classes).
- At least 1 of the classes must be within the math department (so for example, could not send in 1 economics class and 1 computer science class).
- Must have at least a 3.7 grade in two classes of the following topics (or similar topics):
Preferred Qualifications
- Rising senior in undergraduate/graduate program
- Coursework that includes math, probability and statistics, computer science or economics
- Ability to think creatively, communicate clearly and work collaboratively
- Ability to work the full duration of the Internship program
