Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Director, Actuarial Services, the Financial Analyst is responsible for in-depth analysis to support analytics and actuarial functions to improve the financial performance of the company's Medicare and Medicaid lines of business. This position will focus on monitoring unusual variances in performance, analyzing these variances, and packaging the analyses to communicate the results, thereby enabling pertinent areas to take appropriate action.

Essential Functions:
  1. Collect and analyze health care claims and enrollment data to improve decision making, using statistical analysis to identify patterns, correlations, and actionable results.
  2. Assist in developing and maintaining projection models to support enrollment projection, financial projections, and value-based purchasing.
  3. Assist in the preparation of financial reports and documentation.
  4. Communicate and present findings and recommendations to the actuarial team and other stakeholders.
  5. Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in health informatics, finance, mathematics, economics, actuarial services, or related field. Advanced education or successful actuarial exam attempts may substitute for required experience.
  • One to five years of experience working with claims data, risk models, mathematical or actuarial analysis, preferably in the health insurance field.
  • Pursuit of actuarial credentials through the examination process is not required for this position but is supported by the company through an actuarial study program.

Required Skills
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with skills and experience using Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculate financial outcomes.
  • Professional attitude and appearance.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently or as part of a team
